Whether you’re a professional writer or just someone trying to write for money, you can write a profitable eBook. Your eBook doesn’t need to be written by a pro to make money – you just need to provide valuable information on your chosen topic to your potential buyers and readers.

It can be far easier to get your ebook directly into your reader’s hands, instead of going the traditional route of the book publishing industry.

Click here to access some basic “get started” steps for writing an ebook in this FREE download!

You might think that, because the “real” offline publishing world requires that you have a ton of writing credits before they’ll even look at your work, and without that, you have no chance of being published. Not online! In the online world, eBooks are usually written to appeal directly to their consumers – which is not the same as needing what it might take to get your work on a bookstore shelf.

Online readers are used to different styles – they are looking for someone who can talk to them in a personal way, casual and conversational. They’re not looking for a textbook or huge literary tome. They are also looking for FAST answers – and they’re looking every day on the Web for those answers. As a writer, you make them feel comfortable with you enough to buy your informative eBook. Consider how great it will feel to get paid to write!

When it comes to how to write an eBook, you don’t need to learn a ton about a topic just to start writing. You can research online for any topic you choose. If you canf ind your way around the Web, you can find enough good information to build your eBook and write it in your own voice.

Writing and publishing an eBook for sale online can be a lucrative way for any freelance writer to add an income stream. Done right, you can make significant extra cash as an information publisher.

When you get a great idea for a topic you’d like to write about, why not consider whether it could be a profitable eBook? visitors to your website looking for this topic are ready and willing to buy. Why sell it only once to another publisher? Instead, start publishing some of your own work to build your income to the six-figure level.

Working from home as a writer can be a dream – it’s a perfect way to bring in extra income while you are home with children, or just because your don’t want to work in an office every day! There are many ways you can make money writing, probably just as many different ways as there are writers.

The flexibility of working in freelance writing is probably the most attractive aspect of writing for money. Usually, though, freelancers will tell you that the money is not that great, and getting freelance writing jobs can be truly competitive. It seems though that many writers don’t take advantage of online wirting opportunities both to find work writing for others, and also using your own writing skills to build your own, personal income stream.

I usually encourage people to think of their writing as a business – not a business as a freelance contractor, but a publishing business. You write articles, web content, blog posts, for pay; then you sell those to other people, such as businesses building an online presence, or webmasters building niche websites. What’s to prevent you from using your writing skills to create online “real estate” in the form of your own websites that bring you money?

When you’re thinking about how to make money whether online or off, Hub Pages is one of the ways you can make money with writing. Building Hubs requires that you write reasonably well, have interesting content to share, and make your Hub attractive enough to bring back visitors again and again, which leads to you making money with your Hubs. So, if you’re starting out as a freelance writer, it can’t hurt to build Hubs to add an income stream, but also as a sample of your work that you can use to show clients.

You can also find work writing articles and content for others. Sites like Elance.com or Guru.com give you an opportunity to search for clients who need writers. Be sure to post a professional profile and references to showcase your work. Some of the jobs available include article writing, e-zine writing, blog post writing, and writing ebooks on a particular topic.

You can also post ads around the Web offering your services. You can list your services at Digitalpoint Forums, Sitepoint Marketplace, and others.

Build yourself a great looking blog or website showcasing your work too, and by using smart search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, you can get organic traffic from those looking for writing services.

Start to learn how to build your own websites which will bring visitors and help you make money with your wriitng. A good, inexpensive ebook on the subject of how you can build a profitable writing business is Building An Ebook Empire, by Tiffany Dow. Check it out, and get started making cash from your writing.

If you want to write, but also make money, writer jobs probably aren’t the best choice. And, you should know that the two traditionally do not go together. So many writers shrug off the lack of money and say, Well, I love to write regardless of the pay.

But wouldn’t you love writing that much more if you could also support yourself with it?

If you’re looking for a way to make money with freelance writing, writer jobs are probably not the best way to go. If you can write, why look for a job? Use your writing skill to write your own ticket.

Writer jobs generally pay badly, $20K or $30K can be considered a good job. Over $50K per year is unlikely except for the highest echelon of experienced staff writers, who can make more than that. You may get benefits of course, but these jobs are highly competitive. If you’re looking for a way to make money writing, why choose a desk job?

If you’re young and right out of school, it might make sense to find a writer job that will get you experience and bylines. Magazine and newspapers like to hire new grads because they are inexpensive, and they don’t take as much offense to things like having readers contribute more content or low wages. Younger writers are also likely to be more familiar with online content, so they can blog or Twitter all the day long.

But as a writer, especially as a freelance writer, you can do whatever you want to earn income. You can write blogs; you can sell articles; you can sell packages of articles. You can create your own website content. You can make money writing articles. You can be a publisher of content, not just a hired gun who writes for other publishers. Frequently writers are stuck thinking inside the box of finding a freelance client. But why not publish your own stuff, direct to your own audience?

There are plenty of new places in today’s online world to sell your freelance writing, especially if you’re good. And, to acknowledge reality, especially if you write nonfiction. But think how easily you could indulge your fiction writing urge if your nonfiction created a hands-off income stream for you to live on?

Do you want to make money writing, or is it more important to get a book on a shelf in a Barnes and Noble (which, very soon, shelves will be out of style). Become an online publisher – and skip the writer jobs, if you are looking for the best way to make money on your own terms.

I’m working real hard on building a HUGE list of where to find freelance jobs, salaried writing positions, contests, agents, publishers and more on the Web. The list is not going to include “how to” writing sites, i.e., how to get published, how to find an agent, or anything else, just sites where you can find markets for selling your work.

It’s tough – there are plenty of sites listing more sites, but often half the links are broken, the site owner doesn’t bother to update them. I’d like my readers to be able to just go down the list, and follow the links to submit to as many appropriate sources as possible. I’m tracking down dozens of these as we speak, and they’ll all be available with some other great bonuses a “kick off” for this site (since I just went live on April 10th, I’m planning something for the end of the month).

If you have a place you’ve found with consistently good listings (that you’d be willing to share!), or if you have a good resource for finding agents or contests, or anything else related to sites that pay money for writing, post them here. Don’t list specific market listings (for example I’m not listing magazines or topical sites that accept submissions – other pubs do that way better than I do!). Add a comment with your best suggestion for finding leads, and if we use it you’ll get attribution with a link to your site! Be sure you get advance notice when the list is available, subscribe to my newsletter if you aren’t already on our list (use the link to the right).
