Hi from SueC here at Six Figure Writing! As a new reader, be sure to subscribe to my email list, and my RSS feed to get the most out of SFW. Thanks for stopping by!

Tomorrow I’ll be releasing the list of all the places online you can go to find new freelance writing jobs, as well as places to sell your own work.  (If you want to get access first, you’ll have to join the list by signing up to the right - I’ll be sending out an announcement soon!)  While it lists many, many places to sell your work and writing services,  It’s not a traditional list, meaning just another list of websites that post freelance gigs and jobs.  I’m adding a whole section about places you can go to sell your own products, either direct to your audience/clients, or through affiliates.  I’m also posting links to sites like Elance where you can bid on specific jobs.

The best way to use this list is to not only look for places where you can send a submission or bid on a job posting.  Instead, when you read these postings, consider what the buyer is doing with the writing you produce:  Are they running a topical website in a niche you are passionate about? Are they hiring a bunch of writers to handle bulk tasks (like writing dozens of articles)? Are the looking for someone to ghostwrite an eBook - what do you imagine they would do with that?  Buyers aren’t hiring writers unless there is a market to resell the work at a nice profit, you can assume they are paying you a fraction of what they will make selling your work to their customers!  How can you cut out the middleman, and reachthose customers directly with your own product?

The sites I list are good places to find jobs, but also good places to research.  which bring me to my next offering - The Hidden Web - Exposed!  I’m also going to be posting a new eBook listing dozens of deep-web research sources, places you can find ideas, products, public domain materials, web partners, newsletters and email lists farbeyond what is accessible just through Google (think “500 TIMES” more material!)  If you are serious about creating content - and to reach six figures, you should be - you’ll want to get your hands on this ebook.

Look for more tomorrow and Thursday about these great offerings, plus some goodies too…

The “hidden web”, or “deep web” is estimated to be 500 times larger than the “surface web”, or those pages that are indexed by Google, Yahoo! and etc.

Are you using the resources of the Hidden Web?  Let me know how you’re using it - the possibilities seem endless to me, for product ideas, publication ideas, competitive research, it’s almost overwhelming.

If you’re not using it - stay tuned.

I’m working real hard on building a HUGE list of where to find freelance jobs, salaried writing positions, contests, agents, publishers and more on the Web.  The list is not going to include “how to” writing sites, i.e., how to get published, how to find an agent, or anything else, just sites where you can find markets for selling your work.

It’s tough - there are plenty of sites listing more sites, but often half the links are broken, the site owner doesn’t bother to update them.  I’d like my readers to be able to just go down the list, and follow the links to submit to as many appropriate sources as possible.  I’m tracking down dozens of these as we speak, and they’ll all be available with some other great bonuses a “kick off” for this site (since I just went live on April 10th, I’m planning something for the end of the month).

If you have a place you’ve found with consistently good listings (that you’d be willing to share!), or if you have a good resource for finding agents or contests, or anything else related to sites that pay money for writing, post them here.  Don’t list specific market listings (for example I’m not listing magazines or topical sites that accept submissions - other pubs do that way better than I do!).  Add a comment with your best suggestion for finding leads, and if we use it you’ll get attribution with a link to your site! Be sure you get advance notice when the list is available, subscribe to my newsletter if you aren’t already on our list (use the link to the right).

Yesterday’s interview with C. Hope Clark of Funds For Writers was really great - she definitely has her finger on the pulse of inside information about finding freelance and full time writing jobs, grants, contests and more. I’ll be posting a free link to the full transcript later this week, if you want to make sure you get a copy, sign up for my list on the right, to get notified when it’s released.

While Hope publishes places writers can find work, it was also interesting to hear her stress that writers MUST take advantage of the technology on the Web to market and promote their work! Writers traditionally are not considered the best “sales people” - how many writers just cringe when they even hear that term?

Yet you aren’t very likely to get to six figures unless you learn how to promote and, yes, SELL, both yourself as a writer, and your work, regardless of market or genre. I am going to be pulling out the stops in the next couple weeks and beyond, to bring you some killer tools to help you promote your self and your career. It’s about exposure, and making yourself visible so publishers, agents, and clients can find YOU instead of just the other way around. So let’s just get started with this open ended question: Taking a look over your current online promotion and outreach, do you use any/all of these tools?

  • Blog(s)
  • Newsletter
  • Email Marketing
  • Free giveaways/reports/samples
  • Social Networking: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn?
  • Web site that is content-rich, and cross-linked EVERYWHERE
  • Forum memberships/frequent posting to forums, discussion sites
  • Any of the zillions of tools, widgets, apps out there to help you build a presence efficiently

… and if you are, are you using them to their fullest potential to get yourself and your stuff out there?
